Creating New Catalog Listings on Amazon Using the Upload Center in Your Amazon Market List

This article describes the process for creating brand new listings on Amazon through the Solid Commerce upload center user interface in the Amazon Market List.

Adding Items to Your Solid Commerce Amazon Market List

Before populating or uploading your Amazon listing template, you need to add your items to your Solid Commerce Amazon Market List.

There are two ways to add items to your Market List:

  1. Populate and upload the simple Excel template attached to this article, Adding-Items-to-Your-Amazon-Market-List.xlsx.
  2. Select the Solid Commerce Warehouse containing the items you want to list and use the Add to market list button.

The following table explains how to populate the Solid Commerce fields when adding your items to a Market List. When you populate the Amazon template, don't populate the fields specified in the "Amazon Fields to Leave Blank" column. Our system will submit the data from our fields instead.

Field Name Amazon Fields to Leave Blank Field Description and Valid Values
results  

Leave this field blank in Excel (it doesn't exist in the user interface). The results will automatically populate when you upload the file using the Solid Commerce Excel Add-In Tool.

product custom sku   The SKU of your product.
warehouse id  

The Warehouse ID of your product. You will also enter this value in the item_sku field of your Amazon listing template. This is the value that we use when we communicate with Amazon.

amazon sell price exp standard_price

This field controls the price of your item on Amazon.

You have two options for populating it:

  1. Enter a number with up to two decimal places and no currency symbol.
  2. Enter formulas using the word cost, like cost*1.5 or cost+10. More complex formulas also work, like cost*1.2+5 or ((cost*1.2)+5).

If you are using an Amazon repricing rule, this is the value we will use to calculate your floor, ceiling, and no other sellers prices (unless you provide these values on a listing-by-listing basis through the "by item param" fields).

market auto rule  

The name of the Amazon Pricing Rule you want to use on your listing.

Amazon Pricing Rules specify how we should set your price. The rules include fixed price and automated repricing options.

list name  

This field only applies if you are adding your items to the Market List through Excel.

Populate it with the name of your Amazon Market List in Solid Commerce.

po sources  

The name of the Warehouse(s) Solid Commerce should use as the inventory source for your listings.

In the user interface, you can view and edit your PO Sources by clicking on the Available Warehouses icon (small purple warehouse icon to the right of the automation badge).

amazon qty exp quantity

Enter lq in this field if you want to make your entire inventory available on Amazon. You can also enter formulas if you prefer. See Using the Listing Quantity Expression to Control the Quantities on Your Listings for more.

amazon onsale price exp sale_price

This is a sale price that is lower than the standard price.

You have two options for populating this field:

  1. Enter a number with up to two decimal places and no currency symbol.
  2. Enter formulas using the word cost, like cost*1.5 or cost+10. More complex formulas also work, like cost*1.2+5 or ((cost*1.2)+5).

If you supply an amazon onsale price exp, you must also provide an amazon sale start date and an amazon sale end date.

Any changes to the standard price on Amazon removes the on sale price. You should use a fixed price rule on sale items, not a repricing rule.

amazon sale start date sale_from_date The date the sale price will begin overriding the product's standard price on Amazon.
amazon sale end date sale_end_date The last date the sale price will be displayed on Amazon. Only the standard price will be displayed after this date.
run amazon  

In Excel, entering No keeps the automation turned off. In the user interface, the Automation badge (circle icon with the letter "A") indicates whether the item is automated or not.

We recommend keeping the automation turned off when you first add your items to the Amazon Market List. If the automation is on, we will automatically submit them to Amazon. Since you haven't added the Amazon listing details to these items just yet, they will fail to list.

After uploading your Amazon listing details, you will turn the automation on so that we can submit your listings to Amazon.

 

Downloading Listing Templates From Amazon Seller Central

To list through our upload center user interface, you will download and populate a listing template from Amazon. Downloading a template from Seller Central is a one-time process. You can save your downloaded template and use it the next time you want to list new products.

To download a template from Amazon:

1) Login to Seller Central.

2) Go to the Inventory menu -> Add Products via Upload.

3) In the "STEP 1: SELECT THE TYPES OF PRODUCTS YOU WANT TO SELL" section, use the "Product Classifier" interface or the search tool to find the leaf category that you want to list your products to. Click the Select button to add that category to your template.

  • If you want to list to more categories, continue to select categories until you add all the ones you want. The categories don't have to be related to each other.

4) In the "STEP 2: SELECT THE TYPE OF TEMPLATE" section, select Advanced and click the Generate Template button.

5) Your template will download.

 

Populating Your Amazon Template With Products

Follow the requirements in Amazon's template to populate it with some products.

If you've never populated one of Amazon's listing templates before, keep in mind that you don't need to populate most of the columns. Here are some pointers for filling it out:

  • The "Data Definitions" and "Example" tabs are extremely helpful. They have the answers to most questions.
  • The "Instructions" tab provides some basic guidelines for populating the template.
  • The "Images" tab documents Amazon's image requirements, which are pretty specific.
  • The "Template" tab is the sheet that you populate and upload.

 

Fields in Amazon's Listing Template That Populate Solid Commerce Fields

We manage some Amazon data using our own fields. We populate our fields from your Amazon template, so you don't need to change the column headers or make other edits to Amazon's listing template.

If you ever want to review these fields in Solid Commerce, this table will help you find them. If you want to update the data in our Solid Commerce fields, you can continue to use Amazon's template with its native columns and column headers. We'll take the data from Amazon's columns and overwrite the data stored in our fields.

When you upload your Amazon template, we'll search the Warehouse IDs in your Market List for the values in the item_sku column. This is how we know which items to add the Amazon listing details to.

If you leave this field blank, we will submit your item with a condition of New.

You only need to populate this field if you are selling an item in used, collectible, or refurbished condition.

condition_note Notes amazon comments

You can use this field if you list an item in a condition other than new.

The condition note allows you to provide details about the condition of the product. It is visible below each sellers' name when a buyer views all of the sellers available on a listing.

merchant_shipping_group_name Shipping Template Name amazon shipping template name

Enter the name of one of the shipping templates you created in your Amazon Seller Central account.

If you leave this field blank:

  • For new listings, Amazon will assign your default shipping template.
  • When updating existing listings, Amazon will keep the current template.
fulfillment_latency (not visible in the user interface yet) amazon leadtime to ship

Amazon includes handling time in two processes:

  1. Creating new listings.
  2. Updating inventory.

We manage the handling time for both processes with our amazon leadtime to ship field.

If you ever update the amazon leadtime to ship in Solid Commerce, we will automatically submit the new handling time the next time we send an inventory update. If you want it updated faster, select the item in your Amazon Market List and click the Update Listings button.

If you leave this field blank, Amazon will use their default value of one to two business days.

 

Listing Variations

To create new variation listings on Amazon, follow Amazon's variation format. The "Data Definitions" tab of their template provides information on how to populate the variation fields. The "Example" tab shows how the fields look when they are populated.

 

Uploading Your Template In Solid Commerce

To upload your file:

1) Save the "Template" tab a CSV (Comma delimited).

2) In Solid Commerce, go to the Products menu -> Inventory Manager.

3) Select the Amazon Market List that you added your items to.

4) Click on the Upload Amazon Template File button.

5) At the bottom of the Upload Center flyout panel, drag and drop your Amazon template CSV or click the browse button to find it.

6) Click UPLOAD.

 

Viewing Progress, Results, and Downloading Recent Uploads

During the upload, we'll automatically switch you over to the "Recent Uploads" tab in the Upload Center flyout so that you can track the progress of your upload.

The Recent Uploads tab displays your 10 most recent uploads. The uploads displayed are specific to the Market List you have selected.

If all of the items upload successfully, you will see a green cloud with a check mark in it. We also provide a message that verifies the total number of items processed.

If any of your items fail to upload, you will see a red could with a line through it. Our upload process reviews each item in your file separately, so your entire upload won't fail just because some of the individual rows fail. The message in the pane shows you how many items uploaded successfully and how many had errors. In the screen capture below, you can see that 6 products were included in the file. 5 uploaded successful. 1 had an error.

You can download a results file by clicking the HERE link. The results file is your original upload file with two columns added to the right of Amazon's columns:

  • Status - Indicates whether the item in that row uploaded successfully or failed.
  • Message - Displays an error message for the items that we failed to process.

If you want to group the items that failed together, you can sort the file by the "Status" column. You can also hide all of the columns to the left of the Status column if you want see the results next to columns like the item_name, manufacturer, or item_sku for reference.

You can correct the data in the downloaded file. We recommend deleting the "Status" and "Message" columns before uploading your revised file. This isn't a required step, but it allows the columns to populate with the latest results. We don't add a message for items that upload successfully. If you don't delete the "Message" column before uploading again, the errors for items that failed previously will still be visible if the items process successfully this time. You don't need to modify any other columns in the downloaded file. Save it as a CSV (Comma delimited) and upload it.

 

Turning the Automation On to Submit Your Listings to Amazon

Now that you've added your items to a Solid Commerce Amazon Market List and uploaded your Amazon listing details, you're ready to turn the automation on. Once the automation is on, we'll automatically submit the items to Amazon to list.

There are two ways to turn the automation on for your items:

  1. Upload a simple Excel file with the run amazon column set to Yes.
    • If you added your items to your Amazon Market List using Excel, you can upload the same file again, just change the value in the run amazon column from No to Yes.
    • If you added your items to your Amazon Market List from a Warehouse through our user interface, you can download the template attached to this article, Turning-Automation-On-to-List-to-Amazon.xlsx. It only has four columns to populate.
  2. Find the items in the Market List user interface, select them, and click the Start Automation button.

 

Updating Your Live Amazon Listings

We automatically submit quantity and price updates to Amazon. You don't need to take any action to trigger quantity and price updates besides making sure that the automation is turned on in Solid Commerce.

Downloadable Templates for Adding Items to an Amazon Market List and Turning Automation On

This top template contains the few columns necessary for adding items to your Solid Commerce Amazon Market List. It also includes a "Products & Inventory" tab for creating new products in Solid Commerce and adding them to a Warehouse.

The following template can be used to turn on the automation for your items so that we can submit them to Amazon for listing. It only contains four columns to populate.
